In succeeding volumes, Northfield Poems and Uplands, the style is noticeably more clipped and abrupt, approaching Imagist concision. The poet is clearly inspired by natural phenomena, particularly in the latter volume where his attention to mountain scenery is keenly alert. In Briefings he continues to experiment with short, sudden articulations of feeling and momentary perceptions. But in 40 AMMONS Sphere the style changes again into a long sequential discourse patterned by sections of four triplets where language is only partly sculpted.
